Go with the Ice Floe/w

Ice floes along the Susquehanna River

I have a job where my duties can be performed remotely. However, our Bureau comes into the physical office twice weekly. Even if the temperatures are freezing (as they have been as of late), I like to venture outside. Maintaining motion is key to keeping warm, though even I’m not immune to the discomfort inflicted by wind and an overcast sky.

On January 21, the cold was offset by the sun, even though the paths along Riverfront Park remained largely iced over (causing my rubber soles to slip on more than one occasion).

While I noticed the aftermath of an accident on Front Street (complete with someone laying on their horn like in that Godard movie), I didn’t take any photos of that out of superstition of some karmic retribution.

I can’t get the sound to work, but you get the idea

I did, however, capture some video of the ice breaking up and floating downriver, an image I’ve always found captivating and relaxing.

Enjoyed your lovely Arctic apocalypse videos. We in Texas have been living in your world for the last three days. It’s a solid couple inches of ice with a fine layer of snow all over Garland and out my front door. Been locked in––had Saturday off, called out at Ace for Sunday, and fortunately off again today Monday, but tomorrow Tuesday I have to try to get to work by 8am. Won’t even get above freezing until Tuesday afternoon. Alas, if I don’t survive the trip to work, I wish you a fine and fond farewell. 🙂

Thanks, Chris – I was actually wondering how things were down your way. Glad you weren’t made to venture out in the ice. Clearing our driveway yesterday was like cracking peanut brittle with a shovel. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’re supposed to get out of our below-freezing funk until next week (highs in the 20s, lows in the single digits for the foreseeable future), and there’s apparently another storm(?!?) on the radar for this weekend(?!?). 😦

    Loved this!

I sort of wanted to see a surprise penguin on a piece of passing ice!

Oh, man – that would’ve been so cool! One of the wiseguy penguins from Madagascar, preferably.
