After lifting my leg to the fire hydrants of other sites, I decided it’s long overdue for me to claim my own damn hydrant.
And besides…once you’ve been AWOL from LiveJournal for years, the mere notion of going back is simply humiliating.
“New year, new beginnings” and all that…
This space will serve to host writing and content that may not necessarily fit at my regular online haunts. I will still discuss movies and other media, as that is the one area I feel a certain level of “qualification” to comment on.
I may also discuss the creative process (I’m currently working on a play), offer unpopular thoughts on things (“New Twitter,” amirite?), and maybe even give a carefully calibrated window into my personal life.
Who knows…I may face a sleepless night where I can’t shut off my thoughts, and take a mental dump within public view of the whole wide Internet!
In any case: for those who don’t know already, I’m Jonny and I write horror movie reviews for Crash Palace Productions. I co-host The Last Knock horror podcast, and also contribute to Movies, Films & Flix. My past “work” includes written reviews for numerous fanzines and sites like 1428 Elm, The Screening Space, Machine Mean, and Loud Green Bird.
You can also find me on Facebook (hope you enjoy cat memes!), Letterboxd, and Instagram.
That said…I believe another impetus for creating this site has to do with the disconnected nature of the Internet these days: most of us have a bunch of social media accounts, and in most cases, they tend to serve as vessels to cross-post the same things in depressingly incestuous manner. I think there’s something appealing about having a place that’s an exclusive repository for writing and pictures (go ahead, use the “C” word!) that can’t be found anywhere else.
So…whatever idiocy, profundity, or irresponsibility transpires here, I can point with dubious pride at the letters, dots, numbers and forward-slashes in the URL and know that “it’s mine…it’s ALL MINE!”
